The Freedom Community Historical Society is delighted to announce the continuation of its 2025 Summer Reading Series with a special event featuring local author Trudy Chambers Price. Price will discuss her book, "The Cows Are Out!," on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 3:00 p.m..

The event will take place at the historic Freedom Town Meeting House, located on the corner of North Palermo Road and Town House Road in Freedom.
"The Cows Are Out!" is described as a bittersweet memoir that delves into two decades of dairy farming. Chambers' narrative chronicles the daily routines of haying, cow breeding, and milking, all set against a backdrop of charming and engaging rural life. The book introduces readers to a cast of kind neighbors, eccentric individuals, city folk, and beloved pets, offering a tribute to the dedicated family farmers of Maine and the state's rich historical and cultural heritage.

Trudy Chambers Price, also the author of "Thirteen is a Lucky Number," was born in Island Falls, Maine, and raised in the Aroostook County town of Caribou. Her family has called the County home for over five generations. In 1966, she and her husband acquired a 150-acre dairy farm in Knox, Maine, where they raised their two sons and worked the land together for 23 years.
This event offers a unique opportunity to connect with local history and agricultural traditions through the personal experiences of a Maine author. All members of the community and visitors are encouraged to attend.
