Where Art Meets Science: An Afternoon with Gary Hoyle on August 16

Gary Hoyle has spent nearly his entire life working at the fascinating intersection of art and science. For 28 years, he served as an exhibits artist and the Curator of Natural History at the Maine State Museum. His remarkable career led to a historic milestone: the first (and currently only) discovery of woolly mammoth remains in Maine.

At this event, Gary will be sharing insights from his captivating book, "Mystery Tusk: Searching for Elephants in the Maine Woods." The book details the incredible true story of his search for truth, which led to Maine's historic mammoth discovery and unraveled a fascinating historical tale about an elephant that inspired P.T. Barnum. It's a must-read for science buffs, history enthusiasts, and anyone curious about Maine's deep past.

A 30-year member of the International Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, Gary’s artwork has been exhibited nationwide.
